  • How do I download the software trial?

Freehand provides FREE, fully-functional trials of both AccuRIP and Spot Process Separation Studio software.

    Download from:

CDs may still exist in the marketplace that contain trials and installers. DO NOT use the installers
from these outdated materials. The best place to obtain a trial or an installer is from a web site that is up-to-date such as Freehand's web site or an active Reseller's site.

  • Should I ever uninstall software?

In most cases you will NOT need to uninstall software. Uninstalling software is NOT a fix to technical
issues although we hear that users mistakenly believe this to be a fix. You would uninstall if you no
longer wish to use the software again on a particular computer.

In the case of AccuRIP Software you may wish to move the Software License to another computer. Uninstalling
it will create technical problems and error messages when installing and entering the Serial Number prior to doing a proper
TRANSFER ACTIVATION from the Activation Menu of the software.

  • How do I locate the version and build number of the software?

From the ABOUT Menu or HELP Menu of your software you will find the version and build
numbers that is currently installed on that computer.

Review the large graphic displayed on the web page for the version and build number for Mac and Windows
    versions.

  • How do I purchase the software?

There are several ways to purchase Freehand Graphics software.

    1. Contact a Valued Reseller.
    2. Go to the BUY NOW (web store) section of our web site.
      http://www.softwareforscreenprinters.com/store/
    3. AccuRIP has an option to purchase directly through the software. It is located under the PURCHASE
    4. Menu.

  • I am selling my shop. Can I sell the software too?

YES. Both AccuRIP and Spot Process Separation Studio state in the End User License Agreement
that the license is transferable to another party.

AccuRIP: Contact Freehand Graphics for assistance with the transfer of the license. You will need to
first TRANSFER the ACTIVATION of the software off of the computer. We will see this transfer occur
and be able to blacklist that serial number. Only then can a new serial number be delivered to the purchaser.
Documentation proving the sale of the software (original over and new owner) may be requested.
Please have that information available. Original owners that do not have an operational
version that can be properly transferred can not legally sell the software as it is not in working order.

Freehand Graphics, Inc. will always protect the original software license owner and needs direct contact
with the original owner to provide a proper transfer. The new owner will then benefit from the
same protection and support opportunities enjoyed by the original purchaser.

Separation Studio: Dongle version software is easy to sell. Simply provide the new purchaser with the
dongle and Software installer. Note that some old software versions may not work on modern operating
systems. It is the responsibility of the seller and purchaser to verify this information first before
completing a sale. Feel free to contact Freehand Graphics for assistance and clarification.

Any Serial Number (serialized) version of Separation Studio would need to transfer the serial number
off of a computer. Contact Freehand Graphics for assistance by calling the sales department at 631-
    744-4330 ext 2.

  • Is it hard to learn to use the software?

NO, both AccuRIP and Separation Studio have the shortest learning curves of any software on the
market. We engineered our software to be accurate, user-friendly and highly productive.

    AccuRIP:
AccuRIP users simply use their graphics programs as usual. There isnʼt any added work flow to slow
the process or complicate it as other RIPs do. From within the PRINT window of the graphics application
your file was created or the graphics application you wish to print from simply choose the AccuRIP
to Epson Driver for your particular inkjet model. Of course, you have to setup the Epson Inkjet
and create the AccuRIP to Epson Driver first. The Auto Wizard walks you through the driver building
process or you can manually access it through the SETUP Menu of AccuRIP and answer the simple
questions in the 3 Tabs. The User Guide (Manual) and Online Videos are very helpful in the short
    learning process.

    Spot Process Separation Studio:
Separation Studio users simply open a properly prepared file (RGB TIF image on a transparent background)
(RGB TIF, fully-cropped image) and the file is automatically color separated. It delivers the
under-base, spectral value colors and you then CLICK to Generate a Black Channel. Adjusting the colors
to pump up the color value to match the original RGB is managed through easy adjustment sliders.
Editing tools for greater control are built right into the software. The User Interface of Separation
Studio is extremely simple although what it delivers is astonishing. The User Guide (Manual) and Online
    Videos
are very helpful in the short learning process.

  • What else is installed along with the program?

For your convenience the User Guide, Read Me file(s), tips and other helpful items such as Remote Tech Support Tools are installed along with the Application/Software. Review the contents of these folders so you are familiar with the valuable tools provided.

  • Can I hire a consultant from Freehand Graphics?

Yes, we have a HIRE EDUCATION program that provides learning opportunities for all aspects of pre-press and print production. This is not an ON-SITE consultancy but a phone/VNC service. Most requests involve learning how to properly build and color separate files using particular graphics applications and informative discussions on how to succeed at film output, screen burning and on-press production. There is just a $90 fee per hour (half hour minimum) and you will be scheduled with one of the industries best communicators and whole operation screen-print veterans. Our consultants have worked with shops of all sizes and scopes around the world since the early nineties. The Hire Education program is by
appointment only through the sales team.

  • What operating systems are supported?

AccuRIP and Separation Studio are both Windows and Macintosh software. In fact, an AccuRIP Serial
Number can be used for either a Mac or Windows user. Changing platforms will not require a purchase.
Separation Studio users with a Matrix dongle also have a universal dongle for either Mac or
    Windows.

    AccuRIP:
Windows XP, Vista and 7 (all are 32 and 64 bit ready)
Macintosh Tiger 10.4.5 or later, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion

    Separation Studio:
Windows XP, Vista and 7 (all are 32 and 64 bit ready)
    Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion

  • Does your software require a dongle to operate?

AccuRIP is a Serialized solution which means you receive a Serial Number to operate AccuRIP. The
Serial Number can be used for one installation. You can subsequently transfer the Serial Number off
of one computer for use on a different computer.

Separation Studio is Dongle controlled software. Wherever the software is installed and the dongle
is plugged (USB port) the software will operate.

  • Can I Network the software through my LAN?

Yes, AccuRIP can be installed on one HOST computer (the one directly connected to the Epson printer) and then every user on your Local Area Network can share the driver and print to the Epson.

This web site includes the instructions on how to easily share the AccuRIP driver. Several cross-platform options make it extremely valuable to users with a mix of OS versions or even both Mac and PC
    environments.

Yes, Separation Studio can be used on multiple locations but not simultaneously. Install the software on any number of computers and run Separation Studio wherever the dongle is plugged in. No, it can not be shared across a LAN.

  • Where do I get an Epson Driver for my Epson Inkjet?

Plugging in an Epson Printer to your Computer (CPU) will automatically generate an Epson Driver. In some instances such as with Windows 7 the driver generated will not allow AccuRIP to connect properly and build the AccuRIP to Epson Driver or a Driver can become corrupted. It is very easy to download a current Epson Driver from www.epson.com to ensure you are working with the latest driver.

  • Does an inkjet create quality films?

YES, Epson inkjets are great output devices for screen-printers. Because the resolution and line screen requirements are humble as opposed to those of an offset printer the screen-printer has gravitated to the inkjet for its quality, affordability, and accessibility. The devices have been used in the industry for nearly a decade and because of AccuRIP and the All Black Ink system the user experience has been heightened.

With the AccuRIP Software Setup Window open, the user chooses their Epson model (i.e. 1440, 4880, 7000, etc.). The available resolutions for each particular model will be in the pop-down menu. The line screen range is from 10 lpi to 200 lpi for all models, which offer much lower and higher line screens that are typically used by a screen-printer.

With the availability of quality waterproof film, ink (dye and pigment) and the All Black Ink system the user can easily obtain the right consumables for film making.

  • What models work with the All Black Ink system?

We have an All Black Cartridge-based Ink system for the following Epson Printers:
    1400/1430 • 1800 • 1900 • 4800 • 4880 • 4900 • 7700 • 7880 • 7890 • 7900 • 9700 • 9880 • 9890 • 9900. Our reseller Ryonet has a proprietary
All Black for the Artisan 50 and Workforce 1100.

    http://www.softwareforscreenprinters.com/price-and-distributor-lists

  • There are other products that say they are All Black Ink. Can I use them?

Only products coming from Authorized Resellers will have sanctioned All Black Ink Cartridges. You will also see the sanctioned inks listed under the Brand Name BlackMax. Unauthorized Black Ink Cartridges will not be supported or warrantied by Freehand Graphics, may not deliver the quality seen with Freehandʼs exclusive All Black Ink system, and if its manufacturing does not meet our stringent guidelines can lead to downtime.

Freehand Graphics warranties the carts to be free of manufacturer defects for 180 days from date of purchase. Check all ink cartridges upon arrival for leaks and for cartridge damages that may have occurred during transport.

  • Can I refill All Black Ink cartridges?

No. The cartridges are not refillable. The cartridges are manufactured using a superior system of ink delivery so air isn't introduced into the ink. Air in the system can lead to ink starvation, leaking and other issues that would cause downtime.

  • Can I recycle All Black Ink cartridges?

Freehand Graphics encourages ink cart recycling. Communities around the globe have ink recycling programs in place
such as through school systems and local companies. There currently is no Freehand Graphics program for the return of carts, but will happily accept cartridges back from users and will manage the recycling. The shipping cost to Freehand is covered by the user/shipper.

  • Can I get a CD Installer Disk? I am installing from a CD. Is this the proper installer?

    AccuRIP
AccuRIP does not ship with an Installation CD. AccuRIP Installers and Software are frequently updated to keep pace with changing operating systems and engineered with enhancements. Users should NEVER install from an old CD or from an archived installer (.exe or .dmg).

Always install from the latest version/build available for download at:
    http://www.softwareforscreenprinters.com/downloads

    Separation Studio
Spot Process Separation Studio ships with a dongle and an Installer on a CD. Use this installer for the first installation.

Any future installations should be from an Installer downloaded from our web site to ensure you have all the latest features:
    http://www.softwareforscreenprinters.com/downloads

  • I am learning Separation Studio and have additional questions. What should I do?

All the answers to everything a user needs to know is conveniently located in our User Guide. It is a short guide because the operation is very user-friendly. It provides instructions on art prep before Separation Studio, software operation, feature explanations, output info, pre-press data, and on-press instructions.

In addition, there are videos and tutorials on our web site, as well as videos produced by our Valued Resellers. Simply SEARCH Separation Studio on www.youtube.com to review the videos.

Separation Studio is one of the easiest graphics programs ever created. The critical processes are handled automatically by the software engine and any user edits are simple to perform. The User Interface is so simple that users navigate the software without ever reading support materials. We, of course, suggest you read the material we worked hard to develop and provide for your benefit. Expect success with Separation Studio and our support materials will ensure you achieve that success.

The User Guide is automatically installed in the Separation Studio folder during the software installation process. We have also included it on our web site so you can access it and read it wherever you internet connected.

  • What ink and film brands should I use with AccuRIP and my Epson?

    FAQ

A user has several choices. First decide whether you wish to work with pigment ink or dye ink. Pigment
ink is chemical-based while Dye ink is water-based. Our All Black Ink system uses a quality food
grade dye with UV light blocking properties. Pigment ink will need to be visibly opaque while Dye
should be dark but UV light blocking properties help it deliver the right dMax (ink density) without it
    being opaque.

The film brand should be Waterproof so there is an emulsion layer on the film so the ink can grab to
the film. Non-waterproof may work but is most often the cause of streaking and numerous other problems.
The small amount of savings when purchasing non-waterproof over waterproof gets eaten
away with wasted film and ink and the loss of production time. Not worth it.

There are many brands available. Although some brands claim to be good for both pigment and dye it
goes against reason that one product can deliver quality for two very different inks. A direct match is
always best (for example, dye ink to dye waterproof film).

    TIP:

PIGMENT INK - match with - PIGMENT BASED WATERPROOF FILM

DYE INK - match with - DYE BASED WATERPROOF FILM

  • Can I transfer the license of the software to another computer or user?

    FAQ

YES. Both AccuRIP and Spot Process Separation Studio state in the End User License Agreement that the license is transferable to another party.

The most important step is that the Serial Number is TRANSFERRED off of the original computer. This is easily done by accessing the ACTIVATION Menu of AccuRIP and choosing TRANSFER ACTIVATION. You need a direct internet connection for the transfer to occur.

  • What is the All Black Ink system? Can I just use any black cartridge in another slot?

    FAQ

The All Black Ink system is a bulk ink system. Its number one job is to deliver volume of black ink to an inkjet. By delivering it in a cartridge system it eliminates all the downtime and issues associated with the bottle systems. With all slots loaded with black ink only the inkjet becomes a dedicated film output device because a screen-printer needs BLACK INK on FILM ONLY! Color is not needed at all in the film output process. And, because all slots/nozzles are in use all the time during film output the likelihood of a clog is eliminated or dramatically reduced. When colors remain in the printer the user has to run maintenance to prevent a clog, use costly ink to break up a clog and subsequently spend money on a color cartridge (or clear) that has no direct purpose in the output process. If you are making black films then black ink is what you need. In addition to the system delivering great value as noted above, the ink itself is a top-quality, food grade quality, water-based dye with UV light blocking properties. It has no minerals or sediments that can add to the clogging on a nozzle. This system has been met with great reviews since its first release half a decade ago and users understand the value it delivers including cost savings and high productivity.

Do not attempt to use a cartridge from a different printer model than your model, as it will damage the cart and possibly the internal contact in your printer. Using a black Epson cartridge in all slots (users have tried this) will not work and will damage the printer. This system was engineered and is not simply a matter of sticking in a black cart in a slot. AccuRIP Software controls the ink lay down and is necessary in order to work with our All Black Ink system.

Beware of inferior products claiming to be All Black Ink systems.

All Black Ink is sold exclusively through our Valued Reseller Network.

  • How does your software compare to other brands?

    FAQ

Comparing one software to another is an involved process and what we expect our users to do. The entire user experience and productivity rating is of utmost importance.

Does the user have the opportunity to work with a fully-functional trial so they can profit during the experience?

Freehand has always provided fully-functional trials since the first release of Spot Process in the mid-nineties. The trials are unrestricted which means you get the full experience and can use the films or files generated by our software in full production. This offering is a userʼs guarantee that Freehand fully stands behind its products and that no purchase needs to made until the user is absolutely ready.  We truly want you to feel the benefits of our software including profiting from its use.

Does the software deliver what you need to be productive and profitable?

What has been the downfall of other brands are too many features that can serve to complicate the process, slow production, and/or do not have an importance in the process. A feature loaded software can first look like the best choice, but after examination actuality can be a production killer when it is not a focused solution. Time is money - don't waste it. Freehand Graphics is dedicated to delivering software and products that focus on the tasks screen-printers perform every day. Accurate and consistent results, an easy user interface, the “right” industry-related features, high-productivity solutions and World Class support are what you get with Freehand Graphics.

In the screen-print industry during the past 20 years when technology has made it into almost every pre-press process the end-user and Resellers were exposed to a varying degree of companies and philosophies. As large a scope as this industry has it also has a much smaller network of developers and resellers than other industries. Many of the same names and faces have been around for 20 years or more. Some have not proven to be good for the industry while others have remained companies with stellar reputations such as Freehand Graphics. Freehand is rich in a history of solid software and solutions, World Class support (FREE), top-notch consulting services, and one of the most stable companies in the industry since 1982. Freehand Graphics has been a highly regarded company and stands on that distinction.

COMPARE the product(s) and the company that manufacturers and supports the product(s). Freehand Graphics is the engineer team AND the support team. You can't beat that combination.

    COMPARE:
    C: Company
    O: OS
    M: Mission
    P: Products
    A: Accuracy

Mission: Freehand Graphics' Mission has been to deliver the finest, industry-specific software and products. Providing World Class Support FREE to a global community of users is equally as important.

Products: Freehand develops its software and products to to be highly-productive for the screen-printer. Focused on the industry you're in means the solutions are right for you.

  • I hear great things about your support. Why is your support superior to other companies?

    FAQ

The best support can only be delivered when numerous components are properly in place as is the case at Freehand Graphics...

  • What are the benefits of a driver-based RIP? What does RIP mean?

    FAQ

A RIP is a Raster Image Processor. It allows a device such as an Epson Inkjet printer, which doesnʼt understand the language of graphics called Postscript to be able to understand the Postscript Language of your graphics file and output ALL of the elements such as halftones, blends, gradients, type elements and more.

AccuRIP is driver-based which means after you build your file properly in a graphics program you are done and ready to print. Simply choose the AccuRIP to Epson Driver as your printer choice and the data is processed. Working from within the same application and not having to open a secondary program and manage additional windows and options saves you countless hours and reduces user errors. If you have ever worked with a laser printer you will understand the ease of the workflow.

  • AccuRIP is not printing my file. What can the problem be?

    FAQ

When a file is not printing the cause would be a connection error (AccuRIP canʼt locate printer to deliver
the data such as when the user selects the wrong port upon setup), the file itself has an issue
(Postscript error - bad font, too many anchor points), or the printer needs attention (out of ink, clogged
nozzle) The resolve will be determined based on the error message received or by reviewing the
    setup and checking the printer.

AcuuRIP can not simply refuse to print or improperly print a file. It is hard coded to do its job with absolute
accuracy. What we determine in order to resolve an issue is what is standing in the way of AccuRIP.
